Pipa
The Pipa — with its four strings and 2000-year-old lineage — bridges elegance and intensity. From whispering tremolos to percussive attacks, it tells stories beyond language.
About this instrument
The Chinese Pipa is a descendant of Central Asian lutes brought along the Silk Road, later evolving into one of the most dynamic and expressive plucked instruments in Asia. Its rapid strumming patterns and bending tones evoke everything from the rush of cavalry to the subtle grief of farewell. I’m drawn to how its storytelling nature aligns with my own approach — blending centuries-old phrasing with modern tonal textures.
